If you’re a new homeowner and don’t know the particulars of preparing AC for Spring, it’s an important process. The mission is to make sure the airflow in your home is clean and functioning.

A compromised AC unit or system is forced to work harder and can become damaged from the stress of blockage while being more costly to operate. You’ll save money by following these simple steps that will ensure smooth airflow.

Residential home integrated gas heating furnace and air conditioner cooling unit disposable air circulation filters. The dirty, old, used air circulation filter is on the left. It is quite noticeably much filthier than the brand new clean and fresh filter on the right.

Replacing the Furnace Filter

Find the filter slot in your furnace. It should be on the side of your unit. When replacing it, make sure the arrows on the edge are pointing toward the furnace. If you need a replacement filter, Abode Home Comfort can provide those for you with our easy filter program.

Checking the Outdoor Condenser

Check around the unit for leaves and debris.  These can cause the air conditioner to not perform as well as it should.

Inspecting the Drainage Pipe

If your drainage pipe is clogged, it could cause the water produced by the A/C coil to back up and spill on the floor.

Checking the Thermostat

After checking to make sure the batteries in your thermostat are working, lower the temperature by several degrees. Then wait for the AC to start.

If the AC doesn’t activate, contact an HVAC professional.
